"The most important thing is to remain the boy I am. Success won't change me, in the end it's just a number and a title, then there's a normal life outside of tennis. I want to remain the normal boy who sometimes likes to go on go karts and doing common things with the people I love. Obviously I hope to remain ATP No.1 for a while, otherwise I'll be 2 or 3 but I don't want to put too much pressure on myself."

With his usual modesty and humility, Jannik Sinner analyzed his new status as ATP No.1, in the press conference that followed his victory against Grigor Dimitrov in the quarterfinals of Roland Garros. An incredible achievement for Italian tennis: no player from the country had ever been the leader in the men's or women's singles rankings. Sinner, who won his first match as number 1 (virtual, it will be from Monday 10 May 2024 - ed.) in the quarter-finals of Roland Garros against Dimitrov and qualified for the first time in his career to the semi-finals of the Parisian Major.

At the press conference, Jannik not only talked about this historic result, which represents his great dream since he began playing, but also analyzed the key moments of his rise.

"The three match points with Novak Djokovic in Davis were perhaps one of the key moments, but there were numerous moments that showed how much I have improved on the court. That was a very important match for Italy, but I would say that there was also a turning point in Beijing. From there I started playing better and felt much more solid. Then the semi-final in Wimbledon, Toronto and the final in Turin, it's difficult to say what the turning point was," he told.

Sinner then praises his team fort he work they have done and the result they achieved together: "I'm lucky to have always had the right people next to me at the right time, otherwise I would never have been able to achieve this result. I will always continue to look for honest people, they are the only ones who help you grow and give you something extra, even if sometimes it hurts they have the strength to always tell you the truth. I am happy with this achievement, I made many sacrifices when I was young and I have always continued to make sacrifices to improve myself, I made choices that were not simple, like the one two years ago, I threw myself into the fire and whether right or wrong at that moment is not I could have known."
