The dream has come true. Jannik Sinner can finally say that he has achieved the goal for which every tennis player, since they are teenagers, works and makes sacrifices. The world record is a reality. It will be precisely from Monday 10 June, when the ATP ranking will be updated and will smile, as it has never done before, at our colors. Perhaps not the way that Jannik, as a polite boy that he is, hoped for.

The official announcement came with the withdrawal of Novak Djokovic from the quarterfinals of Roland Garros. The Serbian champion, who had already announced this possibility, should have played against Casper Ruud, for a place in the semifinals, but that was not the case.

The Italian, however, fully did his duty. He beat Grigor Dimitrov in three sets, only really risking in the final tie break, which he however took home with Olympic calm.

Jannik Sinner joins a legendary club

Jannik Sinner is 29th tennis player to reach world No. 1. 14th youngest to achieve this, just to rattle off a few more numbers. At 22 years and 9 months, the South Tyrolean ranks among the greatest ever. Like and better than him many legends of the present and the past.

Two names above all, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, who crossed this milestone at the age of 22 years and 2 months and 22 years and 5 months, respectively. Better than him have been his near-peer Carlos Alcaraz (19 years and 4 months), but also champions of the level of Bjorn Borg, Pete Sampras, John McEnroe and Marat Safin, who reached maturity very early.

What about Novak Djokovic? the same cannot be said for him, who began to perform more late in life. The 24-time slam champion reached the top for the first time at 24 years and 1. Similar path to his was experienced by Andre Agassi, who became the ranking leader at 24 years and 11 months. The semifinal between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner is certainly highly anticipated. On Friday afternoon on the Philippe Chatrier center court, the two players will compete to reach the final at Roland Garros.
