An amazing game played by Marcos Giron and a clear physical decline of Matteo Berrettini suddenly reopened a game that seemed to be resolved in just over an hour. The Italian was dominant at the service for a set and a half - just think that in the first he lost only four points at bat - but the American has found a way to respond continuously and raise his head.

In the end, despite Berrettini’s efforts, Giron came back 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.

Berrettini immediately took the lead with a break to zero made so by a bad double foul of Giron.

The Italian ace guard the break without ever going wheezing. In the second part it happened all in an instant: Giron played a flawless game in response and converted the set point with a great straight break.

The American recovered from 15-40 in the game that kicked off the third set; while Berrettini saw his performance drop with the passing of minutes. The decisive break came 2-3, when Berrettini sank the slice into the net.

Matteo Berrettini feels good

During the press conference, Matteo Berrettini reflected on his loss in Halle: "The games, even more on the grass, spin on a few points and I was not able to exploit my chances. At one point, they decided to close the roof because it was predicted to rain. This changed the conditions a bit and the field slowed down a bit and I found myself less well.

There is the satisfaction of being back to play and I did not expect to get these results. I feel good physically and I’m getting used to the stresses in the game. Now let’s think about Wimbledon.”

In recent months Matteo has played little because of physical problems and now he is trying to react, the priority is to be in the best possible conditions ahead of Wimbledon, maybe hoping for a non-infernal draw. Matteo could be among the outsiders at Wimbledon given his favorite surface.
