Gilles Simon: ´Men´s tournaments prize money have to be higher than women´s´

Gilles Simon, who is in the ATP Players Council since 2012, spoke about the equality of prize money in ATP and WTA Tour to Tages Anzeiger. Simon thinks that the prize money in the men's tournaments has to be higher than in the women's, because "women doesn't generate the same money as men do.

There are 50 factors that show it. Women want more combined tournament, because they can get higher prize money. Half of the prize money is for the women's tournament. I think that it's not normal'. Simon used to like women's tennis: 'It was fantastic when there were Graf, Seles, Hingis, Williams sisters, Clijsters, Henin, Capriati...

however, after them there was a decrease and the era of Federer, Nadal, Djokovic and Murray arrived'. For Simon, WTA profits that the Players Council is insisting to have a higher prize money to help those who lose in the first round.

At the US Open in the last three years prize money increased of 67% and who lost in this edition, earned $39.500. 'It's unacceptable that the World No. 90 can't pay a coach while Federer travels with a numerous staff'. 'It's true that the prize money is becoming higher, but top players earn too much compared to the others.

It's unacceptable that the winner earns 100 times more than who loses early' said Simon, who lives in Switzerland because 'In France you have to pay too much taxes'. Also Read: ATP VALENCIA: Johnson keeps his good form in Valencia, Tomic crushed by Cuevas
