This year’s Australian Open will be very different as Angelique Kerber will be the top seed at the tournament. This will be the first time in five years that somebody other than Serena Williams is the top seed before heading into Melbourne.
Such had been the dominance by the American that before the first Grand Slam of the year, predictions had started to come in about who is going to be playing Williams in the final. However, with the changing of the guard at the top of the rankings, the door has been left wide open and Garbine Muguruza is hoping that she can capitalize on this opportunity.
"It is a little bit more equal than last years," Muguruza said "There are a lot of girls that can hold the trophy (so) it is going to be a big battle to see who is the best in these two weeks." The Spaniard made her break through last year as well as she won the French Open.
And now as we approach the first Grand Slam of the year, she is hoping to add to her tally and continue on her successful path. Source: SBS Also Read: Jarmila Wolfe calls it a career and criticizes Australian Open
