Steve Johnson: 'Robin Soderling balls are the worst ones I've ever played with'

Alexander Zverev was not the only player to complain about the balls he used this week. In Memphis, where this week the ATP 250 event is taking place, the American Steve Johnson criticized a lot the RS Black edition balls produced by the former Swedish player Robin Soderling.

'They are awful,' Johnson said in press conferece. 'They’re the worst balls I’ve ever played with. That’s my opinion. I’m sure other guys would maybe differ from me. I don’t know if I’ll ever another tournament again with the Soderling balls.

I know the guys here who run the tournament kind of got into this late. They didn’t have enough of another manufacturer’s balls. Look those guys (tournament co-chairs Jerry Solomon and Josh Ripple) are awesome. I love playing this event.

The crowds are awesome. The facility is great with the Racquet Club feel. (The use of the RS tennis balls is) not a reflection of the tournament itself. It’s one of the best tournaments I could play on the tour.' Soderling balls are also used in the Stockholm Open that is played on the indoor hard-courts like in Memphis.
