David Ferrer hopes to achieve a great milestone in Rio de Janeiro next week

Spanish tennis player David Ferrer looks forward to playing at the Rio Open next week. Ferrer hasn't had a great start to the year and would certainly love to have a good campaign in Rio de Janeiro. He reached the Australian Open third-round and collected three round of 16 losses so far - Brisbane, Auckland and Buenos Aires.

Ferrer, who started the season at number 21 in the world, has fallen to number 27 on the ATP Rankings list. ''I'm very happy to be here,'' Ferrer said ahead of the tournament. ''I'm not at my best level of tennis, but I intend to improve here.'' The 34-year-old is just a couple of wins away from achieving a 700 wins mark in his career.

''I hadn't thought about that, there are how many? 4? So I hope to get them here,'' he said. 2015 Rio Open champion Ferrer will open up his campaign against Aleksandr Dolgopolov of Ukraine.
