Juan Carlos Ferrero: 'At times, Zverev struggled with handling accolades'

Former world no. 1 Juan Carlos Ferrero has been a very helpful addition, so far, in Alexander Zverev's coaching team. The former Spanish player first got in touch with Zverev in May during Madrid Masters, and they started officially working together in July after Wimbledon.

In an interview to the Champions Tour website, Ferrero said they are working mainly for the long-term. 'What we are witnessing is a before and after for Sascha,' Ferrero said ahead of the Champions Masters in London.

'His experience in London will come in handy; he's learning how to handle himself during these types of events. That's essential to his growth.' Zverev is not a 'Next Gen' player anymore, but a top player.

And so he is dealing with expectations too. 'It has been a very important year for Sascha,' added Ferrero. 'These accolades have all come very quickly, and that's something that he has struggled to handle at times.

Part of my goal is to keep him balanced and not to lash out when things don't go his way. That will improve over time, but I'm trying to accelerate that process. He has to keep growing, keep gaining experience.' ALSO READ: Rogers Cup director: 'Roger Federer is a tennis maniac'
