Doha Open tournament director: 'We've one of the strongest fields'

The Qatar ExxonMobil Open field won't feature the defending finalist Andy Murray, Roger Federer or Rafael Nadal who have all decided to kick off new season in Australia, but two-time former champion Novak Djokovic, the world no. 5 Dominic Thiem, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Tomas Berdych, Richard Gasquet, Fernando Verdasco and Pablo Carreno Busta will all be playing in the event.

Karim Alami, the tournament director, is satisfied with the 2018 playing line-up. 'We are delighted to once again bring some of the world's best players to Qatar for another rounds of sensational tennis at the Qatar ExxonMobil Open. We’ve always been passionate about organizing the best tournament and we have been consistent in achieving this. The 2018 Qatar ExxonMobil Open is once again parading some of the strongest field in its category which is a proof of our commitment over the years,' said Alami.

The tournament will be played from 1st to 6th January 2018. In the 2017 edition, Djokovic beat Murray in three sets after three hours.
