Austria's Oliver Marach was in great spirits after capturing the Australian Open men's doubles title alongside Croatian partner Mate Pavic as the Austrian hopes that he and his partner will be able to get back and defend their title in a year from now at Melbourne Park.

Pavic at first didn't realize he and Marach had won the match as the Croatian needed a moment at the net to realize that he is now a Grand Slam champion. “I’m a little bit speechless. This guy (Pavic) didn’t even know we had won in the last game.

I cannot believe it,” Marach said post-match. “We’ve had an unbelievable run, I hope we can continue like this throughout the year, I’ve enjoyed every minute we have had on the court together. “I hope we can return to retain our title.” Marach and Pavic fell short in a historic five-set Wimbledon to Lukasz Kubot and Marcelo Melo this past July -- but kept working hard to eventually clinch their maiden Grand Slam title as a team.

Marach and Pavic have had an outstanding start to the season so far as the pair also went all the way at the Qatar ExxonMobil Doha Open and ASB Classic. Croatian doubles star Pavic is now hoping to make a splash in the mixed doubles event as he and partner Gabriela Dabrowski are set to feature in Sunday's mixed doubles final.

“It I was lost in the moment. We broke but, in my head, I thought it's 4-3,” Pavic said. “It was a great atmosphere, a really special moment for us. “I opened my mobile, I have 200 messages. It's going to be a long night.

With emotions and everything. I not going to sleep a lot. “I’m really happy with these two weeks, the beginning of this year. We still haven’t lost a match!” Also read: Nick Kyrgios could be called upon to take huge workload Germany
