Sascha Bajin is having some of the best years of his career as a hitting partner-turned-coach. In October 2017, he was a part of Caroline Wozniacki's team when the Danish won the WTA Finals in Singapore.
Then there were some disagreements, as Bajin wanted to be more than just a hitting partner. So he joined Naomi Osaka's team in December to train with her. However, he injured his ankle during their initial training session that was to serve as a tryout to see if the partnership could be developed.
'One of those freak accidents,' he recalled in an interview to New York Times in Indian Wells, where Osaka reached the final. 'I tried to keep going, of course, because I really wanted to work with her, so I bit down on my lip.
It wasn’t the smartest thing to do because my ankle is still swollen now, but I think she liked the vibe, and the communication was good and we decided to give it a try.' ALSO READ: Roger Federer is much more vulnerable in defense, says Jeremy Chardy
