Malek Jaziri: 'Win over Marin Cilic is very precious for my career'

A stunning win over 2014 US Open champion Marin Cilic means a lot to world No. 78 Malek Jaziri. Jaziri of Tunisia stunned defending champion Cilic in the Istanbul Open last-16. The Tunisian lost just six games in an hour and 19 minutes of play as he handed a 6-4 6-2 loss to the Croatian.

The head-to-head record between the two now stands at 1-1 as Cilic defeated Jaziri at the Rogers Cup in 2014. 34-year-old Jaziri has yet to win an ATP title but he is now certainly hoping to make a splash in Istanbul this week.

"I keep improving my game. This victory is very precious for my career and self-confidence. Everyone has a story, perhaps this year mine will be spoken," Jaziri said after stunning Cilic. Jaziri is due to meet Czech Jiri Vesely in the quarter-finals this Friday.

No. 7 seed Vesely edged Brazil's Thiago Monteiro In a third-set tie-break to reach the quarter-finals. The two are set to meet for the second time as Vesely beat Jaziri in Bucharest in 2015. Also read: Pedro Sousa recalls Gastao Elias' words after painful Estoril defeat
