Kaia Kanepi needed just two sets to score first big upset at the US Open, 6-2, 6-4, taking out World No.1 Simona Halep in what proved to be a shocking Round 1 Result. “I think it's the way we match up,” Kanepi said, speaking about the pair’s last meeting in Doha.

“I remembered how I played her last time. I was just trying to do the same today." “She has been playing really well in U.S. lately, so I thought I just have to be aggressive and try to stay calm. That's what I should do,” Kanepi added.

She further explained this by saying, “Because I can be aggressive when I want to because she defends a lot. I have time to be aggressive.” Kanepi was also surprised by Halep’s crowd support, “I was thinking about that — why are they cheering for her so much, because normally they cheer for the underdog,” she said.

It was a bit annoying for some time but I got over it.” She then spoke about her love for playing at the US Open, “I love playing here in New York. I have always loved it,” Kanepi enthused. “I think the courts suit my game, and I love being in New York.

I like the city. I like the atmosphere in tournaments and in the city, also. And I like the weather: humid.” ALSO READ Rafael Nadal: 'Someone will replace me and Roger Federer'
