French rising star Ugo Humbert is ready to take on former world No. 3 Stan Wawrinka in the US Open second round on Wednesday. The 20-year-old is in the midst of a breakthrough season and now heving a chance to clash against one of the biggest players in the world at Grand Slam tournament is yet another positive thing to happen to him this year.

Humbert, who is having his debut appearance at the US Open, defeated American qualifier Colin Altamirano in straight sets in the first round. The Frenchman previously won three qualifying matches to earn a place in the US Open main draw.

On the other side, 2016 US Open champion Wawrinka ousted 2017 ATP Finals champion Grigor Dimitrov in straight sets in his opening match at the tournament 6-3 6-2 7-5. Humbert and three-time Grand Slam champion Wawrinka have no previous meetings.

"Playing Wawrinka is a great award. He is a great player, who has won Grand Slam tournaments," Humbert said ahead of the match, per Eurosport France. Humbert who started the year ranked at No. 378 in the world, has since made a big rankings jump as he is now enjoying his career-high ranking of No.

139 in the world. Humbert will certainly be eager to make the biggest shock of the second round and send Wawrinka packing out of the US Open. The 20-year-old insisted that he will try to play his best tennis when he meets the Swiss.
