After an Intrum Stockholm Open semi-final loss, Italian tennis star Fabio Fognini wasn't in the mood to talk about his chances to qualify for the Nitto ATP Finals. Second-seeded Fognini was handed a straight-set defeat by No.
3 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas on Saturday 6-3 6-2. Fognini, ranked at No. 12 on the Race to London list, was targeting to win it all this past week and collect 250 points. Fognini doesn't stand a big chance of qualifying for the prestigious season-ending tournament as the difference between him and eighth-ranked Dominic Thiem is about 1,300 points.
"I don't want to talk about that because it's too far away now," Fognini said post-match, per Alexander Theodoridis of Tennisportalen. However, top-ranked Rafael Nadal and third-ranked Juan Martin del Potro could both miss the ATP Finals event due to injuries.
Fognini could collect a maximum of 1,500 points in the following weeks as he is set to play at thisthis we Erste Bank Open 500 in Vienna and the Rolex Paris Masters a week later respectively. The Italian has been drawn to meet Bosnian Damir Džumhur in hia Vienna opener.
Fognini never played in the NItto ATP Finals singles event. However, the Italian has featured the doubles event of the ATP Finals as he alongside good friend Simone Bolelli played at The O2 Arena three years ago. The 31-year-old could also go to London as a reserve.
