Munar: 'Facing Rafael Nadal in an official match would be unique'

Jaume Munar, World No. 55 at 22-years-old, is one of the most promising Spaniards of the new generation, with victories over top players such as Fabio Fognini and Alexander Zverev in his record. Hailing from Mallorca, the Spaniard has never hidden his admiration for Rafael Nadal and has revealed that Rafa was the idol of his childhood.

“Having Rafa next to me is special, it helps me a lot in what I do,” confesses Munar, who has started training in the World No. 2’s academy right before his jump from the 290th position in the ATP ranking.

“Having the possibility of witnessing how he works on a daily basis is something unique, he is one of the greatest examples to follow. He always tells me to work, to do it with enthusiasm and to think of tennis as if it were my life while knowing that it’s not everything in life”.

Munar, who has stunned the public in more than occasion because of subtle moments in his game, has reflected on the difference between his style, and his idol’s, “We have different game styles: Rafa is left-handed and he plays with a very high and heavy ball.

The things that most impact me of him are his character and his yearning for victory”. “Facing him in an official match would be unique,” added the World No. 55, “Something to remember my whole life”.
