Italian tennis star Fabio Fognini says he will never change as a person despite playing the best tennis of his career. The Italian has enjoyed success at the ATP level throughout his career but the attention on him has always been mostly due to his erratic behaviour.
Fognini, 31, was always considered as one of the most talented players of his generation, which includes the likes of Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray. Yet, the Italian didn't manage to fulfil his big potential to the fullest as many believe the lack of mental strength was one of the key reasons for him not succeeding the way he could have.
Fognini recently claimed his maiden Masters 1000 title after putting up a great week in Monte Carlo. The 31-year-old's beat Dusan Lajovic in the Monte Carlo final but the highlight of his campaign was a 6-4 6-2 semi-final win over record 11-time champion Rafael Nadal.
Fognini will achieve a new career-high ranking of No. 11 in the world this Monday. "No, I gonna stay like this 110 per cent. Yes sir," Fognini underlined during his exclusive interview with The Telegraph. When asked does he regret any of his action, the Italian acknowledged: "It's part of the career. When you do something wrong you have just to say sorry. Everybody commit a mistake."
