Former World No.1 and defending Nature Valley International Champion Caroline Wozniacki is happy to be back in Eastbourne as she took out season campaigner Kirsten Flipkens in straight sets, beating her 6-3, 6-4. Gunning to win her Third title here, the Dane won her first title back in 2009 and has had very impressive stints here in the past, reaching the finals in 2017 and three back to back semi-final appearance from 2013-2015.
“I love playing here, it brings back great memories for me,” Wozniacki smiled during her on-court interview. “I was here for the first time when I was 14, so that’s basically half of my life. It’s pretty amazing”.
Analysing her performance during her opening round clash, Wozniacki added, “I think I’m playing really well,” Wozniacki said. “I think it’s very difficult to play Kirsten in the first round. She plays really well on grass, she slices well, has good volleys, good serves”.
“I’m just happy with the win. Some of those shots she hit were unbelievable. Hopefully she can give me a few pointers!” Next up for Wozniacki is former Top-10 player hailing from Germany – Andrea Petkovic, who bounced back from a set down to beat rising Russian Daria Kasatkina 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 to book a clash against the Dane for a spot in the Round of 16.
Wozniacki recently got married to basketball star David Lee in Tuscany.
