Ashleigh Barty: Wimbledon isn’t a normal event

Going into Wimbledon as the World No.1 and one of the favourites, reigning French Open Champion Ashleigh Barty is looking forward to doing at the All England Club. Though she is yet to feature in the Second Week at SW19, Barty has many players eyeing her this time around too but she feels she is ready for it and has no pressure going into Wimbledon.

“All of the attention has magnified a little bit, but the people I have around me, the way that I’m living my life hasn’t changed a bit, and I think that’s the best thing,” she said. “We’ve always tried to prioritise the right things, and I have an incredible group of people around me helping me do that”.

“The only pressure is that that I put on myself," she further commented. "To make sure that I do everything correctly and prepare as best that I can to try and play a good tennis match, try and play well, to enjoy myself."

Forced to withdraw from the Eastbourne event following a win in Birmingham to give her arm some rest, Barty said that Wimbledon is a unique Grand Slam with very few build up tournaments to it. "Wimbledon isn't a normal event," she said.

"It's a little bit bizarre coming into Wimbledon having only played one grass court tournament. We feel like we've been striking the ball really well, we're comfortable with the grass under our feet."
