Warrior-like Simona Halep shared how she found the way to fight back in a herculean way to overcome strong-hitting Ekaterina Alexandrova after being 6/3, 2/0 down. Simona showed us many times that she is capable of making comebacks in the harshest moments of a match and doing so involves her well-known fighting spirit.
“I got the confidence game by game, even if she was leading me. I still thought that there is a chance to win, and I have just to fight”, said Simona after the match. The match ended 6/3, 5/7, 4/6 after Simona managed to prevail in the second set after breaking at 5-5.
After an intense third set, Halep managed to get in a 0-40 situation on Alexandrova’s latest service game before serving well and concealing the victory. However, the Romanian felt the toughness of her opponent, so she was even more proud of her victory.
"She kept the rhythm and the level of her game very high today the whole match. So I needed something extra to finish it to be well. I knew that she's gonna play really, really well, and she did. But I didn't give up, and I'm very pleased with that", said Simona.
Even if Halep injured her left foot in Toronto, she did not show signs of any pain in the affected area. In the 1/8 finals, Simona will face Madison Keys, another hard-hitting player, so she will have to rethink her game-plan. "Keys is hitting really strong, the ball, and is playing flatter”, concluded Halep about her next opponent.
