Washington champion Nick Kyrgios praised his younger compatriots that got in the third round of US Open – De Minaur and Popyrin -, and thinks they can outlast pretty much any player on the tour. De Minaur got past Christian Garin in straight sets to set clash against Nishikori while Alexei Popyrin came back from one set down to fight through Kukushkin and lock horns with Berrettini in the third round of the American Grand Slam.
Asked about his 20 years old compatriots, Kyrgios had only praising words for them. “I mean, de Min[aur], I never expect anything less from him, he's an absolute warrior. He can beat a lot of good players. When I see him progressing through a draw, I know it's a nightmare for anyone who comes across him.
Obviously Popyrin had a pretty good win today. Kukushkin is a savvy veteran. I'm not surprised when those guys win matches at all. They're capable of doing some big things”, declared Nick after his second-round victory over Antoine Hoang.
With such talents in the squad, Australia has a good chance at securing the ATP Cup, especially as they will have the Australians pushing them with cheers from the stands. The ATP Cup is a competition between 24 nations that will premiere in 2020 and will take place in Brisbane, Perth, and Sydney. The nations are chosen based on their best player ranking points.
