Svitolina: 'Monfils and I are trying to make funny posts on social media'

Elina Svitolina spoke about her Instagram combined account with Gael Monfils. The Ukrainian player said: "We got many messages, many comments, saying that we were happy because the account came back. We are trying to do funny things to attract media.

We have a lot of pressure and criticism around us, people say we spend too much time on the social media, I think they are wrong because now social media are part of the world that surrounds us. You use them to interact with fans and they become a part of you, part of the relationship."

Meanwhile, Mats Wilander spoke about Naomi Osaka and Cori Gauff: "That match was at such a high level. Osaka was under the radar and it was so nice from her. To be in her role after last year's dramatic final, she did a great job.

Taylor Townsend beating Simona Halep, who I thought was probably the top favorite. Townsend struggled in her career and fans expected a lot from her. That was a great story." Looking ahead to the US Open final between Rafael Nadal and Daniil Medvedev, the Swede added: "I know Medvedev is full of confidence.

He has to serve exceptionally well but when the ball is in play he doesn't have enough point to hit Rafa on the backhand and forehand sides. It's gonna be a great final, Medvedev is the most confident player in the world apart Rafa Nadal. Daniil is nervous and tired because he knows that to keep the ball in play will not be enough."
