In an interview to the Croatian media Borna Coric analyzed the reasons why he split with his Italian coach Riccardo Piatti who he started working in December 2017. "There have been some controversies for a while, since the start to the season.
It reached its peak at the US Open, we sit around the table and we decided to end our co-operation", said Coric. Piatti started working with Jannik Sinner and Maria Sharapova. "That was one of the main reasons. He is following several projects and he could not fully focus on me.
So we decided that splitting was the best option. The fact that he started working with Sharapova did not help to solve the issues and it made the situation get worse." Ivan Ljubicic will stay Coric's agent, while Antonio Veic will still be his coach.
"Now I am mainly without a fitness trainer and physiotherapist. We are working at a high intensity, it's not easy. There will soon be news." He is set to be back to compete in St. Petersburg. "I have to give my best.
I have been taking painkillers for the whole American hard-court season and at the US Open, I suffered it. I have been dealing with a back sprain but now I am better."
