Kyrgios may have the best serve in the world, doesn't deserve ban - Laver

Rod Laver praised Nick Kyrgios ahead of the Laver Cup where the Australian will compete for the third time. The Australian legend said: "As a player, Nick has everything, maybe the best serve in the world. At the Laver Cup I saw him as an amazing teammate.

In the Laver Cup he played an unbelievable tennis." Laver also clarified his quotes about Kyrgios deserving a ban from the Tour after his antics in Cincinnati: "I have not said it, I was misunderstood by the Sydney Morning Herald.

It was misunderstood by others too and it turned viral without confirming that quote. It's true what I told Fox Sports: I said that Nick should not be banned. Nick was amazing in both Laver Cups, both as a player and teammate."

Asked what he thinks about Djokovic and Stan Wawrinka not playing, Laver added: "Novak played in the last year while Novak could not. This time it's the contrary. Laver Cup is a yearly event and I expect Djokovic to be back next time.

Wawrinka, of course it's a shame. Stan is a great champion, a three-time Major winner in Australia, French Open and US Open. I always like watching him. He can do everything, but his one-handed backhand, this timing and power is impressive.

I hope he will be here again." On the many team competitions around the Tour, Laver concluded: "Tennis always needs to evolve and I follow the development of our sport with a big interest, both in Davis Cup and other events. Tennis is good at all levels."
