Maria Sakkari withdraws from Seoul Open

Top seed at the WTA Seoul Open Maria Sakkari was forced to withdraw from the tournament due to a right wrist injury. The 24-year-old, was scheduled to play qualifier Patricia Maria TIG of Romania has been replaced by Lucky Loser Danka Kovinic in the draw.

The Greek has compiled a 31-19 win-loss record so far in 2019 with an overall win-loss record of 307-206. Having earned over $1M this year, Sakkari lifted her maiden WTA Title this year, when she won the Rabat Open, taking out Brit Johanna Konta in three sets.

She had a decent US Hard Court swing, first reaching the Semi-finals of San Jose, quarterfinals of the Cincinnati Open and a third round stint at the US Open, where she bowed out to Ashleigh Barty in straight sets. She reached the Semi-finals of this event last year, losing to Kiki Bertens in straight sets 6-4, 6-2.

The Greek Tennis federation President recently said that Sakkari would be pairing up with Stefanos Tsitsipas for mixed doubles at the Tokyo Olympics.
