Pella: 'Del Potro doesn't like playing Davis Cup, while I do'

In an interview Guido Pella recalled when Argentina won the Davis Cup three years ago. "In 2016 Davis Cup was not just won by del Potro. We all won it. I am not interested at those opinions. That's not right. In Pesaro, Italy, when del Potro did not play, I was the leader.

Sometimes we are not appreciated as we should. Davis Cup was won by Argentina. If we consider point by point, in 2016 Juan won four, Leo Mayer three, Fed Delbonis three and me there. People doesn't know it. Del Potro is the best player of the country."

Pella also recalled when they faced Italy at home a couple of years ago: "I was not supposed to play. But the captain Daniel Orsanic told me that no one was playing it and so I went there. I played a terrible match with Fabio Fognini.

I was told that I should have not played anymore." On the new Davis Cup format, Pella said: "It's bad but I will definitely play it because playing for Argentina is always the biggest thing. I enjoy playing Davis Cup.

I am angry that del Potro will not play it. I like playing it and he doesn't. He can do it. He did not play qualies either." Through Twitter the six-time Major winner Boris Becker spoke about rhe Laver Cup: “I had so much fun/excitement watching #LaverCup2019!

Congratulations to everybody who contributed to the success of the event! The game of tennis was the big winner. BTW I loved the coaching on court from John/Bjorn and all team members!!! Why not regularly thing on the tour @ATP_Tour #GrandSlam."
