The Danish pundit Peter Bastiansen commented on Caroline Wozniacki's difficult season. The former world No. 1 is defending 1,000 points in this week's Beijing China Open and she started her run on a good note winning on Monday.
"She could end leave the top 70. She is extremely far. The question is if she can be great again", said Bastiansen. "I find difficult that if she ends up as No. 70, she will still have the desire to continue. There are many tournaments where she cannot take a wild card and she will play qualies matches.
It will be a totally different situation. A tough past. We will see if she would be physically and mentally ready for it. Back in the day she was running a lot and giving her best, now it's different. But I think she will play in 2020 too because she has some deals with her sponsors and she is committed to several tournaments.
She is committed to St. Petersburg next year so I think she will play other events too." On her next match against Christina McHale in Beijing, Wozniacki said: "I've had tough matches against McHale in the past. She can play really well. It's important for me to stay aggressive and play my game."
