Greek tennis star Stefanos Tsitsipas praised No. 1 seed Dominic Thiem after blowing a solid lead in the China Open final. Tsitsipas, seeded at No. 3, was up by a set and a break before the top-seeded Austrian stormed back to win 3-6 6-4 6-1 and lift the Beijing title.
"Dominic is tough, he doesn’t let people win," Tsitsipas said post-match, per Metro UK. "He always finds solutions to somehow get it. He actually deserves it a lot so congrats to him and his team for putting the effort and doing a good job.
It was a great week." Tsitsipas lost his serve in the opening game of the match but quickly bounced back as he broke Thiem twice to overturn the things and win the opener. It didn't look promising for Thiem after losing his serve in the third game of the second set but the Austrian kept his focus as he broke back the Greek in the following game.
Thiem came up big in the 10th game to break Tsitsipas and force a decider, which he dominated to lift his fourth title of the season. Thiem now owns a 4-2 head-to-head record against Tsitsipas.
