Former Russian doubles world No. 1 Elena Vesnina has nothing but good to say about fellow compatriot Daniil Medvedev. Medvedev, 23, has been playing outstanding tennis for the past two months as he has reached at least the final in each of his last six tournaments played.
The Russian went all the way at the St. Petersburg Open and claimed titles at the Masters 1000 events in Cincinnati and Shanghai. Unfortunately for Medvedev, he failed to win the biggest final of his career as he ended runner-up to Spain's Rafael Nadal in the US Open final.
Also, the 23-year-old ended runner-up at the Montreal Masters and Citi Open in Washington. As a result of his outstanding form, Medvedev climbed up to a career-high ranking of No. 4 in the world. "I have known Daniil Medvedev since his young age.
He is very smart and educated guy. We don't have many such persons in the sport. He attracted attention from all around the world and it's absolutely deserved," Vesnina said, as revealed by Maria Nikulashkina of Sport-Express.
