Dutch doubles specialist Matwe Middelkoop didn't hide his happiness after winning it all at the Kremlin Cup with Brazil's Marcelo Demoliner. Demoliner and Middelkoop, seeded at No. 4, destroyed Italy's Simone Bolelli and Andres Molteni of Argentina in the Moscow final 6-1 6-2 to capture their maiden team title.
The fourth-seeded duo claimed two breaks in each set as they needed just 45 minutes to seal a win. Demoliner, 30, and 36-year-old Middelkoop were playing together just for the fourth time. The two recently ended runners-up at the inaugural Zhuhai Championships.
"I think it confirms what we believed, it confirms in the title. We have a great team, we have a great fight together and we believe in something,” Middelkoop said after the final, per the ATP website. “You don’t always get lucky to win a title, which gives you confidence, and we got the title”.
Demoliner and Middelkoop had an outstanding week in Moscow, having won all four of their matches played in straight sets. "We had a good plan for this match and we executed very well," Demoliner said.
