Frustrated Dennis Novak calls out Gael Monfils after Vienna clash

Austrian world No. 124 Dennis Novak made it perfectly clear what he really thinks of French star Gael Monfils after their first round clash at the Erste Bank Open 500 in Vienna. Monfils, seeded at No. 4, was facing an early exit from Vienna but he managed to find a way to overcome the Austrian wildcard in three sets 2-6 7-5 6-3.

The Frenchman appeared to be dealing with an injury early on in the match but he continued the match and eventually pulled off a comeback win. Novak suggested Monfils faked he was having physical issues as he said after the match, per Salzburger Nachrichten: "He (Monfils) is known for that, but what he pulled off this time is too much, in my opinion."

However, Monfils had none of it, insisting that it wasn't easy for him on the court but he refused to quit. "I had physical problems. I did not enjoy it and it's not nice for the audience, but I did not want to give up. And Dennis got nervous," Monfils claimed.
