Michael Venus insists that he and his partner Raven Klaasen must stay completely locked in and focused after a great start to the Nitto ATP Finals. Kiwi Venus and South-African Klaasen became the first doubles team to secure a semifinal spot after beating Lukasz Kubot and Marcelo Melo 6-3 6-4 on Tuesday.
On the opening day of the event, Venus and Klaasen beat American Rajeev Ram and Great Britain's Joe Salisbury. "Everything seems to be going great this week. We just keep trying to work hard and persevere together,” Venus said, per the Nitto ATP Finals website.
“We’re just happy to be playing this well at the end of the year and especially in London. It’s such a special event… The atmosphere makes it awesome to play out here”. Venus and Klaasen claimed one break in each set and saved the lone break point they faced when they were serving for the match in the 10th game of the second set.
"We’re really excited about how we played,” Klaasen said. “Mikey carried me out there today. We’re just happy to be through."
