Japanese tennis player Tatsuma Ito, 31, absolutely enjoyed his run at the Australian Open Asia-Pacific Wildcard Play-off tournament. Ito, ranked at No. 148 in the world, saw off Jason Jung of Chinese Taipei in the final 7-5 6-4 to secure a main draw wildcard for next year's Australian Open.
The Japanese made a bad start to the match but won six of the following seven games after falling 4-1 down in the first set to claim the opener. Ito then claimed an early second set break and held on to his serve to get the job done in straight sets.
Earlier this year, Ito won three qualifying matches at Melbourne Park to make his fifth main draw appearance at the tournament. Playing the qualifying took a toll on Ito, win then suffered a straight-set loss to Dan Evans in the first round.
"I really enjoyed this moment” Ito said after the final, per Tennis Australia. “I moved through into the main draw after qualifying this year. It was very tough for me and my body. It will easier next year (smiling).
