Sylvain Bruneau, the coach of US Open champion Bianca Andreescu, says that the Canadian is extremely patriotic and will surely play the Fed Cup and Olympic Games in 2020. Bruneau says, "Bianca is a super-patriotic athlete and is entirely dedicated to playing the Fed Cup and the Olympics, she told me from the first day I met her.
She has the Canadian flag tattooed on her heart and totally dedicated to the cause." Speaking about Andreescu's 2020 schedule, Bruneau says, "She is going to play the Auckland tournament, but will start playing again only in the next few days, so we are a little behind the usual pace.
We will not accelerate the preparation to be ready for Auckland, we will see how the pre-season will go and we will evaluate when the time comes. If more training time is needed, we will not go to Auckland and we will prepare properly for the Australian Open."
Bruneau says Andreescu's schedule at the moment is to play in Auckland, then the Australian Open in Melbourne, the Fed Cup tie against Switzerland in Biel, Doha and/ or Dubai and then Indian Wells. Speaking about his goals for the next season, Bruneau says he has no specific goals for rankings or for tournament wins but instead wants to focus on improving some technical aspects of Andreescu's game.
"I don't like to set ranking or winning goals, we will take a different path. There are a couple of technical aspects that I really want to improve in his game, and I think this will be our goal during the season. And I hope that these improvements translate into victories and improved rankings.
We will have at least three or four (training blocks) during the year, we will have to find the space: this year we did one immediately after the US Open, next year there will be time before the season on clay and then also after Wimbledon."
