Former Wimbledon Champion Richard Krajicek heaped praises for Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, saying that he is what tennis needs. Tsitsipas lifted the ATP Finals last month to further assert his place as the next generation star.
He also made a name for himself off-court with his demeanour. According the Dutch, this is important for the sport, who would be in search of role models once the Big 3 retire. “It is a beautiful time in tennis. A new generation is knocking on the door,” he said.
“You can see that at the ATP Finals in London, where no less than half of the field is 23 years or younger. The youngest of them all, Stefanos Tsitsipas, is the most charismatic player. Not only at the court, but also on the social media”.
He further added, “He knows how to attract many fans. Exactly what tennis needs”. Tsitsipas has committed himself for Rotterdam event in February, where Krajicek is the Director. Though the likes Gael Monfils, David Goffin, Denis Shapovalov, and Stan Wawrinka have all signed up, Krajicek is especially pleased to see Grigor Dimitrov in the list.
“Grigor Dimitrov and the tournament have a special relationship,” Krajicek commented. He further spoke about the Bulgarian, saying, “He made his debut in 2009. It was one of the first chances to prove himself at ATP level as a top talent with us.
He is eager to win the title, especially after reaching the final in 2018. He is one of the most favourite players in Rotterdam, so it is great that he will be there again”.
