Tennis legend Rod Laver recently backed fellow Australian and young gun Alex de Minaur to achieve great heights and be placed amongst the best in times to come. Alex had a fantastic 2019 season that saw him break through the Top-20 .
He also won titles in Sydney, Atlanta and Zhuhai. “If he gets a few breaks here and there he could be mentioned with the top players,” Laver said. “To me, he’s going to be a real force on the circuit and give the top guys all they can handle”.
Alex kicks off his 2020 campaign with the ATP Cup alongside Nick Kyrgios with Australia been drawn alongside Germany, Greece and Canada. They will play their group matches at the Pat Rafter Arena in Brisbane. “Tennis is great to have the both of them playing as well as they are now,” said Laver.
“That’s a good team”. Todd Woodbridge too did not stay behind in praising de Minaur, saying, “Alex de Minaur, he’s got the physically and he’s got the mind. He’s just got to get some more weapons”.
“I think in two more years he will win his first grand slam”. 2019 saw Alex de Minaur winning 41 out of the 61 matches he played on tour and reached a personal best 4th round at a grand slam event (US Open).
He also managed earning almost $2 Mn this year and is presently ranked at a personal best ranking of No.18 on the ATP Charts.
