BMW Open Tournament Director Patrik Kuhnen believes that the bright future is ahead of Italy's Jannik Sinner. On Wednesday, the Italian was officially confirmed for the 2020 edition of BMW Open in Munich. The 18-year-old is set for a Munich debut as he has no previous appearances at the tournament.
The BMW Open will take place from April 27 - May 03. This past season, Sinner impressed with his performances and emerged as one of the promising players from his generation. "Jannik is one of the greatest jewels in tennis and in 2019 he impressively showed that he can have a unique career like Federer, Nadal or Djokovic," Kuhnen said following the announcement, per Tennis TourTalk.
Early in 2019, Sinner won a Challenger event and back-to-back Futures titles -- all in three weeks. At the end of the 2019 season, the Italian made his maiden ATP semifinal at the European Open in Antwerp. The 18-year-old then concluded 2019 with back-to-back titles captured at the Next Gen ATP Finals and Ortisei Challenger, respectively.
Sinner, who started 2019 ranked at No. 551 in the world, is now enjoying a career-high ranking of No. 78.
