2016 Olympic Gold Medal winner Monica Puig recently provided an update about her surgery. “Hey guys! Just a quick update since I’ve been MIA for a few days. I travelled to New York 2 days ago to have surgery on my ulnar nerve in my right elbow that bothered me for some time and gave me persistent pain”.
She further added, “That unfortunately means that I will be missing the beginning of the season and the Australian Open. However, the good news is... thanks to Dr. Altchek and the whole team at the Hospital for Special Surgery, we found and fixed the problem!
We anticipate a speedy recovery and I hope to be back on the court ASAP! I love you all!” Prior to this update where she mentioned that she is skipping the Australian Open, she posted an update about her ‘open practice’, saying, “Hi everyone, I’m sorry to let you that I have to postpone the ‘open practice’ planned for Sunday, Dec 15.
I had a change in schedule unfortunately”. She further added, “However, I am working on a make-up date to reschedule it so I will keep you posted on what the new date will be!” She is presently ranked at No.79 on the WTA Charts and managed winning $591,437 this year.
She managed a 21-24 win-loss record this year with her last tournament being the Luxembourg Open where she bowed out in the Quarterfinals. She has been ranked as high as No.27 in the world.
