Rising Polish star Hubert Hurkacz was extremely happy with the way he performed against Croatian world No. 28 Borna Coric in their ATP Cup clash. Hurkacz, ranked at No. 37 in the world, delivered a big performance against Coric as he crushed the two-time ATP champion 6-2 6-2 to force a deciding rubber.
The 22-year-old Pole was absolutely dominant as he never lost his serve, all while breaking Coric twice in each set to claim a comfortable win. The head-to-head record between the two now stands as 1-1 as Coric won a tight first meeting against Hurkacz at last year's Monte Carlo Masters.
"This was one of the best matches I have played," Hurkacz said, per the ATP Cup. "Borna is a great player and I had to play very well to beat him. Now hopefully we can play our best tennis [in the doubles match] and win this."
Unfortunately for the Poland ATP Cup team, they fell short of completing a comeback win against the Croatians as Ivan Dodig and Nikola Mektic demolished Hurkacz and Lukasz Kubot 6-2 6-1 in the deciding rubber.
