Rising Russian star Andrey Rublev absolutely enjoys playing in Rotterdam as he is hoping to make a splash at the tournament this week. Rublev, seeded at No. 7, handed a straight-set defeat to world No. 56 Alexander Bublik 7-5 6-3 to make his second quarterfinal in Rotterdam.
Rublev, who won back-to-back titles in Doha and Adelaide in January, awaits in the Rotterdam quarterfinal the winner of the match between Filip Krajinovic and Vasek Pospisil. The Russian made the Rotterdam quarterfinal in 2018, while he failed to make it past the qualifying event at the tournament in 2017 and 2019.
"It's amazing. I like this tournament. For me, this is one of the best indoor tournaments. This is my third year in a row (playing in Rotterdam) and I always enjoy to come here... So I like everything here," Rublev said after beating Bublik.
Rublev, ranked at No. 15 in the world, has been improving his ranking since the start of the year and now he has a chance to break into the top-10 for the first time in his career if he wins Rotterdam.
