In an interview with Pal Springs Life, Bianca Andreescu responded to recent remarks made by Darren Cahill made earlier this week. The 54-year-old was quoted saying that the glittering tennis gem reminded him of Kim Clijsters.
The Belgian, a four-time Major champion and former world no. 1, has made another comeback to the Tour, at the age of 36. Stating that she had been honoured over the comparisons made by the Aussie tennis coach Darren Cahill, Andreescu said, “It's amazing because Kim was my childhood idol and my coach used to tell her all the time that I remember her.
I watched her because of her style of play. She was so different from the other players. She had a complete game. She was very strong mentally, physically and tactically. ” The world no. 4 also said that while growing up, Clijsters was one of her idols.
Andreescu, who is dealing with a knee injury, is hoping to return to the Tour at the BNP Paribas Masters in Indian Wells, later this month. She is the defending champion this year, in the event. She is yet to play a competitive match this season, after injury forced her out of the Australian Open.
She last played the WTA Finals in Shenzhen in October, crashing out of the tournament in the Group Stage.
