Croatian tennis star Marin Cilic insisted he absolutely loves representing his country in the Davis Cup after helping his side overcome India in a qualifying round tie over the weekend. Cilic played a key part in his team's win as he defeated Ramkumar Ramanathan on the opening day of the tie before he beat Sumit Nagal in the fourth rubber to seal a 3-1 win for Croatia.
Cilic, who led Croatia to winning the 2018 Davis Cup title, couldn't help his side at the inaugural Davis Cup Finals last November as an injury forced him to skip the event. Mate Pavic and Franko Skugor had a chance to close out the tie but Indian doubles stars Rohan Bopanna and Leander Paes won the doubles rubber to reduce the deficit to 2-1.
"It is a privilege being part of the Davis Cup team,” Cilic said, per the Davis Cup website. “We had an excellent week in training and the court was impeccably conditioned. “I would have preferred of course for our doubles lads to have clinched it but I was focused and ready to step up to the plate”.
