Dominic Thiem reveals his realistic date for tennis to return

World No. 3 Dominic Thiem isn't optimistic that we will see any tennis for the rest of 2020 as he says that expecting tennis to return at the beginning of 2021 is the realistic view of the situation. The season has been suspended since March 12 due to the coronavirus outbreak and there won't be any ATP tournaments taking place until at least July 13.

Unfortunately, the belief among the tennis world is that the Tour suspension will for the fourth time get extended and some fear the whole season will eventually get called off. The latest rumor is that the Tour suspension will get extended through August 3 and that there won't be any tennis before the US summer hard court swing.

Several players have already publicly stated that tennis will be one of the last sports to return as the nature of the sport will make it difficult for it to resume soon. "To bring all the guys together in one place is very difficult.

In my eyes, the most realistic scenario is, that we start again in Australia, or with the events in the beginning of 2021," Thiem told Servus TV.

Earlier this year, Thiem was beaten in a thrilling five-set Australian Open final by world No. 1 Novak Djokovic.
