Coach Max Mirnyi: We aim to bring out a new version of Kei Nishikori

Coach Max Mirnyi says Kei Nishikori is still motivated to work hard and improve as the Japanese tennis star wants to be exceptionally prepared once tennis returns. Nishikori, the 2014 US Open runner-up, underwent a season-ending right elbow surgery in October 2019 but hoped he would be ready for the beginning of the 2020 season.

Unfortunately for the Japanese, his recovery didn't go as planned and he was forced to skip the first two months of the season. Just as world No. 31 Nishikori was preparing to make a comeback, the ATP suspended the season due to the coronavirus outbreak and now there won't be any Tour events taking place until at least early-August.

"Kei would like to improve many things. Whenever upcoming season starts we hope to be best ready and come out with a new version of Kei. Great to see how quickly he absorbs info and improves, it's nothing but pleasure working with Kei and being a part of the team," Mirnyi said on Kei's App.

Kei Nishikori hopes Mirnyi will help him achieve his goals

Nishikori, a former world No.

4, split with his long-time coach Dante Bottini in last year's October. 2014 US Open runner-up has been speaking now for years about his desire to claim a maiden Masters and Grand Slam title. Nishikori has won 12 titles over the course of his career but neither of those 12 titles came on the biggest stage.

Former doubles world No. 1 Mirnyi has now joined forces with Michael Chang in the Kei Nishikori coaching staff and they hope to lead the Japanese to the success he dreams about.
