Great emotions at the Australian Open 2021 from the former winner of the US Open 2019, Bianca Andreescu: after more than a year of stop the Canadian returns to success obviously showing a not optimal condition but fighting to the end, beating Mihaela Buzarnescu in three sets.
After winning the first set Bianca drops, obviously, and loses the second set, but in the third of her the tennis player shows her tenacity and her talent and ends the match with the final result of 6-2 4- 6 6-3. In the post match interview the Canadian talked of her come back on the court.
She said: "Yesterday I was very nervous about returning to the pitch. Today, however, the warm-up went well, and I had good feelings. I made some stupid mistakes, but Mihaela has also raised her level. I don't want to be too hard on myself, it's just my first match.
My goal was to be happy and grateful to be back on the pitch. After the game I sat down with my team and said, guys, here we go again with the matches in the third. They laughed because they know my matches are like that."
The other women's singles matches
The Australian Open 2021 starts in the best way for the American champion Serena Williams. The twenty-three-time winner of Grand Slam titles goes on the hunt for the Margaret Court record and with a masterful performance launches the challenge to all opponents.
The seven-time Australian Open champion won the next six games on the trot to take the opening set. Then, added four games to this tally in the second set to go up 6-1, 4-0. Williams’ chokehold on the match was finally ended by Siegemund who came out the winner in the fifth game of the set to finally hold her own for the first time in the match.
The relief of having done so was short-lived as Williams won the last two games to move into the second round at Melbourne Park. Williams hit four times as many winners as Siegemund – 16 to four – and had 15 unforced errors to the German’s 20.
A double 6-1 is enough to beat the German Laura Siegemund in less than an hour, literally paved from the first ball. Stojanovic is in the second round for Serena. Victory also for Venus Williams who easily beats the Belgian Flipkens and shows a good condition.
In the second round the elder sister of the legendary tennis players will face Sara Errani. Excellent performance by Naomi Osaka who gives only three games to the Russian Pavlyuchenkova and gets the pass for the second round.
Osaka started off the match by winning the first four games of the opening set. Pavlyuchenkova, whose recent result here was reaching the quarter-finals of the 2020 edition, broke back the chokehold in the fifth game by breaking the Japanese’s serve.
It, however, turned out to be the only game the Russian would win in the entirety of the set as Osaka finished the set by winning the next two games in a row. Pavlyuchenkova began the second set with a service hold but she couldn’t stave off Osaka for long in the match.
Osaka broke Pavlyuchenkova twice in the set – first in the third game and then in the seventh game. Serving for the match in the eighth game, the former world no. 1 wasted no time in converting the match points. Osaka finished with 18 winners to Pavlyuchenkova’s 14 and just the 11 unforced errors to the Russian’s 21.
Easy victory for the winner of Roland Garros Iga Swiatek, ahead with the result of 6-1; 6-3. KO Angelique Kerber who collapses playing very badly and crashes with a clear 6-0; 6-4 against the American Pera. No problem for Simona Halep who beats easily and shows that she has removed the physical problems of her the Australian Cabrera. She ends up 6-2; 6-1 in about an hour of play.
