Holger Rune, 17, reacts to clinching his first ATP win

Rising Danish star Hokher Rune clinched his first ATP win on Tuesday after demolishing world No. 257 Sebastian Baez in the Santiago first round. Rune, ranked at No. 410 in the world, handed a straight-set 6-3 6-2 loss to the Argentine to celebrate his first ATP win at the age of 17.

After earning the first break of the match in the sixth game, Rune got broken back in the following game but once again broke Baez in the eighth game and then had no problems serving out for the opener. Rune then started the second set with back-to-back breaks and a 4-0 lead and there was no coming back for Baez.

"It's a great feeling winning my first ATP match,” Rune told the ATP website. “I was playing very good and was very focussed on the court and didn’t make any bad decisions. I was controlling my game and my attitude.

It made me super happy the way I carried the whole match and [gave] everything until the last point."

Rune aims to make the top-100 in 2021

Rune has never been ranked higher than world No. 405 but he is hoping to land inside the top-100 before the season ends.

"I think it's something realistic to [aim to] be Top 100 at the end of the year,” said Rune, who currently sits at No. 410 in the FedEx ATP Rankings. “So far I'm doing good, I'm winning matches and trying to fight [for] every match.

This year I [have only] lost three matches and my goal is to make it hard for my opponent." Rune plays next against Benoit Paire. “This week, I don't know what to expect. I'm not the favourite for the next match so I'm not saying I'm winning the whole thing. But if that happens it's great. I'm just taking it one match at a time," Rune added.
