Lloyd Harris reflects on shocking win against Denis Shapovalov

Rising South-African star Lloyd Harris was a bit lost for words after surviving a thriller against fellow rising star Denis Shapovalov and progressing into the final at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships. Harris, who had to make it past the qualifying event to earn a main draw place, continued his run in Dubai on Friday with a 6-7 (5) 6-4 7-6 (6) win over world No.

12 Shapovalov. "I don’t have many words right now. I am super happy with that win,” Harris said in an on-court interview, as quoted on the ATP web. “Being a set and 2-4 down is mentally and physically a little bit troublesome for me, but I found my best tennis from there.

I am just extremely happy with the result right now”.

Harris fought his way back on an impressive way

As not a single break point was seen in the first set, the set had to be resolved in a tie-break. Harris won the opening two points of the tie-break but Shapovalov managed to tie the tie-break at three points apiece.

The South-African then took a 5-3 lead, before the Canadian won four points in a row to steal the tie-break and win a tight opener. After Shapovalov broke Harris to take a 4-2 second-set lead, the match appeared to he over but the South-African then claimed back-to-back breaks to steal the second set and force a decider.

Not a single break point was seen in the third set and the match featured a second tie-break, in which Harris realized his second match point to advance to his second ATP final. "This is what I am working for. This is what I have been putting in the hard yards for,” said Harris.

“I have been waiting for some results like this. To have so many of them in one week is a fantastic feeling. I have got one more match to go”. Harris plays either Andrey Rublev or Aslan Karatsev in the final.
