Ashleigh Barty: "Can't wait to play Wimbledon"

Despite the good sensations experienced on the eve of the Roland Garros 2021 during training, Ashleigh Barty was unable to overcome the injury to her left flank and during the second round match against Magda Linette she was forced to withdrawal.

The Australian champion did not participate in any preparation tournament ahead of Wimbledon to recover physically and look for the feat on the lawns of the All England Club. In the press conference on the eve of the London Slam, Barty talked about her current conditions and expectations on the grass-courts.

Barty said: "It will be special to inaugurate the Central Court on Tuesday, it is one of those opportunities that few people can experience. Obviously I would like Simona Halep, to be here to live this experience, because she earned the right to open the program on the Center Court by winning the tournament.

I am honored and thrilled to have this privilege.

It will be a special moment and I can't wait to take the field. When you walk through the doors of the All England Club, you feel instantly grateful.

The tournament was not played last year and many players did not have the opportunity to come here to enjoy the feeling of this atmosphere. It is exciting that everyone can return to compete on these fields, even for me. I have another opportunity to learn in this amazing place and experience all the beauty it has to offer.

One day I'd like to win Wimbledon: it's a dream and a goal. Recovery after injury? It was a bit of a slow start. Right after Paris we took some time to digest the disappointment and get a full diagnosis. We were able to do that and that was a crucial part of the recovery journey.

Then I started the rehabilitation phase; we did what we had to do to be here. Right now I'm feeling fit, I'm ready to play, I'm energized for my first game." In the first round, Barty will face Carla Suarez Navarro, who come back in Paris some weeks ago.

Ash said: "It is incredible to have Carla back on the Tour. When she returned to the circuit, we all felt a sense of excitement. Having the opportunity to play on Center Court against her is fantastic. I hope we will have a great match, I know that I will have to express my best level to compete with her. The most important thing, however, is to find her with her smile."
