Gael Monfils withdraws from Wimbledon Championship 2013

Gael Monfils announced that he has planned to skip Wimbledon this year due to personal reasons, after he reached the quarterfinals today at the Gerry Weber Open 2013 in Halle, Germany. Monfils, who has had the career-high rank of #7 in the ATP rankings, defeated qualifier Jan Hernych 6-2, 6-3 in the second round to reach the quarters of the Wimbledon warm-up event.

The Frenchman said - "I have withdrawn my request for a wild card at the Wimbledon because I have to deal with a personal problem." However, when asked to elaborate, he declined from revealing. Gael Monfils, was out due to a knee injury for several months which dropped his ranking to #119 in the world.

However, a decent run at the recently concluded French Open, helped him reached #67 in the world.
