Fabio Fognini is facing a rather complicated period of his career as a singles in the ATP Tour. The Italian, for a series of understandable reasons, fails to obtain consistently great results in the various tournaments, often suffering in the very first rounds.
Fognini is trying to keep fighting and still give himself some joys, even if the task is quite difficult. Recently, due to his position outside the top 50 of the world rankings (currently number 61 in the world), the Ligurian is forced to also play the qualifying rounds in the big events.
A curious episode just happened after the fight to win the last remaining places in the main draw of the Master 1000 in Cincinnati: the 35-year-old defeated the Korean Kwon on his debut, sweating the proverbial seven shirts, and was not able to win the battle against the American Marcos Giron.
At the end of the game, the Italian received some attacks on social media by the haters, who again targeted the player from Sanremo. His response through an Instagram story was absolutely not lacking: "Haters ...(putting an emoji of two hands forming a heart) That's why I love this sport," he commented.
Not only haters for Fognini
Despite the defeat one step away from the finish line, Fognini can definitely smile. In fact, the Italian tennis player, as happened in other circumstances in recent weeks, managed to snatch the qualification in the main draw anyway: Fabio was fished out as lucky loser and will play on Tuesday 16 August against the Spaniard Albert Ramos-Vinolas, a more effective opponent and incisive on red clay than on concrete.
Faced with the opportunity to play their chances of passing the turn. The attention of the blue also remains on the double, in which he has found the dimension of him and is conquering thick results together with Simone Bolelli.
The two are fighting for a placement in the Nitto Atp Finals and will therefore have to collect important points in Cincinnati. The debut for the Italian duo will be very complicated, given that they will be expected from a stellar match against the Australian cup formed by Thanasi Kokkinakis and Nick Kyrgios.
